Pool lockers - He Puna Taimoana Christchurch City Council

The Opportunity

The Christchurch City Council has been working on the regeneration of the New Brighton area. A crucial part of that program was to design and build a stunning hot pool facility for locals, Christchurch residents and tourists to visit. Based right on the beach not far from The Pier, Elocker were asked to develop a solution to work within the architects' design and also allow for the conditions. Even though the lockers would be covered from above, they would be open from the front of the area and exposed to natural sea-air, sand and the elements. We were also asked to work closely with the Council's design agency to create a distinctive look and feel for the lockers.

The Solution

We quickly realised that where the lockers were to be positioned outside the women's and men's changing areas required a new layout. Instead of our traditional linear line layout, we designed an 'island'. This meant having a terminal either side of the lockers to ensure everyone had easy access at all times.
Given the environment, like at Hanmer Springs, we installed an electronic rust prevention system. Our team were able to connect that so along with the hard-wearing vinyl wrap, the lockers will enjoy longevity and many years of maintenance-free revenue generation.

The Result

He Puna Taimoana is a genuinely modern, fresh and stunning addition to New Brighton and Christchurch. Elocker feels privileged to add a layer of security to the installation so that it's patrons can while away the time relaxing with their friends and whanau in the pools.
