Hanmer Springs Lockers

The Opportunity

As one of the South Island’s premium tourist attractions, Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa provides world-class experiences for their visitors. After 12-years of using their existing lockers, Elocker was tasked to replace 250 lockers in two seperate areas of the facility with two quite different layouts. The old lockers also created huge queues, customer frustration and large time implications for frontline life-guards. As a coin and note operated system, they also took time to account for each day’s transactions.

The Solution

Elocker worked closely with the Hanmer senior management team for nine months to develop a specific solution that would last at least 10 to 15 years. We needed to provide a robust solution that accounted for the highly corrosive environment, high amounts of door opening/closing and find a way to reduce the queues. We designed the lockers with some modifications unique to Hanmer to withstand the environment. We also developed an RFID system that allowed customers to access an extra 10 “pay stations’ (using Raspberry Pi software and screens). This has instantly improved the customer experience and reduced staff involvement time.

The Result

Hanmer Springs have a locker system that matches their world-class offering. As well as providing an eye-catching facility, Hanmer have an asset generating large amounts of revenue each day with minimal outgoing costs. Elocker also trained and assisted the Hanmer team during the initial launch phase - which just happened to be during the busy Christmas period!
